On site | with internet
All participants are at the same location,
a stable internet connection and devices are available.

Estimation, positioning questions, group work, self-reflection.

Educational materials + pin boards.
Training material 1–2.

120+ minutes

This task consists of six parts.

In the first part, participants are read the positioning questions from training material 1, which they can position themselves spatially (if there is enough space) depending on whether they agree or disagree with the statements.

In the second part, participants form groups of 2–3 people. They are then asked the estimation questions (training material 1). Points can be awarded for the best answer, as a kind of game.

In the third part, the groups look at the thematic input from training material 1.

In the fourth part, the participants draw one of the research questions from training material 2 and search for information on the internet. They write down a few short, interesting facts from their research on moderation cards.

In the fifth part, all groups work together to create a mind map on a pinboard using their moderation cards and briefly present what they have found out.

In the sixth part, the participants engage in a short self-reflection round and ask themselves what they have learned about algorithms and identity. Sample questions to hang up can be found in training material 1.

  • The research questions from training material 2 must be printed out and cut up.
  • Search for current information material on the topics of targeted ads and cookies & advertising for the third part of the task.
  • The thematic inputs in working material 1 are both in English, but there are good, automatically generated subtitles in German.
