The aim of this task is to make participants aware of the impact their everyday digital lives have on the environment and climate. Together, they also develop practical ways to reduce their own digital carbon footprint.

Procedure
This task consists of two parts.
This task is embedded in a narrative scenario. Using the fictional Freiraum family (mother Miriam, father Volker, teenager Toni, child Kai), everyday scenarios are presented (see training material 1). These are distributed around the room so that participants can comment on them in writing.
In the first part, participants work on the scenarios in any order they choose and at their own pace in a silent discussion. To do this, they conduct their own research on the internet and record their findings next to the scenarios.
In the second part, when all scenarios have been worked through, a gallery walk is a good way to conclude the exercise.
Preparation
- The scenarios from training material 1 must be visualized on flipcharts and distributed around the room so that participants can comment on them for a silent discussion.
Notes on moderation
- It is helpful to introduce the narrative scenario about the Freiraum family at the beginning of the exercise with a brief explanation.
- For the second part of the task, participants can be given freedom in designing their final product. The main aim is to prepare the topic briefly and concisely for outsiders and to communicate it in as accessible a way as possible.
